The IDF is a unique public-private partnership, led by the insurance industry and co-led by the United Nations Developing Programme and the World Bank.

We bring together the best minds in governments, the private sector, development and multilateral institutions – the IDF Change Agents – to reimagine insurance as a tool for resilience and growth – not just to withstand shocks, but to unlock investment, enable entrepreneurship, and long-term prosperity.

We engage partners across the private and public sectors to drive action. We implement projects. And advocate for the creation of the enabling environment needed to achieve our goals.

Together, we help build future-ready nations. So that people, communities and businesses can recover from disaster, attract investment and thrive.

Membership

Membership of the IDF is open to all industry participants (insurers, reinsurers and brokers), multilateral organisations, non-governmental organizations and public sector institutions who share the IDF objectives as stated in its mission and vision. To optimise and extend the use of insurance and its related risk management capabilities in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies, as pre-arranged disaster risk finance. To build greater resilience and protection for people, communities, businesses, and public institutions that are vulnerable to the impacts of climate disasters and their associated economic shocks.

Steering Committee Membership

The IDF Steering Committee is accountable for the overall strategic direction and oversight for the Forum. Its members include leaders of multilateral organisations, government and non-governmental organisations and global insurance industry participants across continents, to enable the decision-making needed to drive greater resilience with solutions to the global protection gap.

Membership in the Steering Committee is by invitation to fill a limited number of seats. Members are selected on the basis of their commitment to the mission and vision of the IDF, and to actively contributing resources to the implementation, engagement and advocacy efforts of the IDF.
